"This wine was grown on the McCreanor Vineyard Princess Street, Martinborough from 29 year old vines. A combination of slightly heavier soils and a single clone, 10/5 on own roots, always rewards us with this particular style; soft, ripe, pure fruit expressions in an exceedingly New World Pinot Noir. It was open topped fermented in traditional wooden cuvees, hand plunged every 12 hours, with a total vat time of 15 days. After pressing it was matured in 30% new French oak barriques for 12 months. It was fined using a minimum of egg whites to protect the flavours but aid brightness in the glass without filtering, promoting soft mouth feel and texture. It will continue to develop for up to 10 years and will always be a wonderful counterpart to any game food." Importer's Note

"Medium ruby in color, the 2011 Pahi Pinot Noir is a single vineyard wine from a block of 10 x 5 clone vines in the town of Martinborough proper. On the nose it has slightly dusty fruit notes of cranberry and delicate strawberry nuances with a whiff of chalk. Medium-bodied with lively acid and low to medium silky tannins, this is a very elegant and delicate wine with a long finish. Drink it now to 2017+."

"From the dense soils of the 30 year (or so) McCreanor Vineyard in Martinborough. The fruit here is a single clone in 10 x 5 on its own roots. This is part of the ‘Insight Series’ of wines, celebrating single sites.

More concentrated than the also excellent Te Rehua vineyard wine, for bouquet at least, spicy, red currants and a touch of cranberry, but there’s a rustic element in the aroma too, maybe a bit of briar. Rustic tasting and texturally too – herbal, garrigue, briary fruit. So detailed in layered fruit and peripheral characters. Thinnish through the finish but with a soft, sighing red fruit and powdery tannin. Complexity is here, it’s just to be sought. It’s a wine for exploring and enjoying over hours. Wonderful stuff."
